Internet and social media a tool of the affluent

According a recent report from the University of California, the internet, and social media in particular, is dominated by the rich and educated.

So who are these monocled media masters? These bourgeois bloggers?

Contrary to the popular opinion that the internet is a level playing field, data from users in the United States showed that “college graduates are 1.5 times more likely to be bloggers than are high school graduates, twice as likely to post photos and videos and three times more likely to post an online rating or comment.”

These findings suggest that the digital divide between rich and poor may be even more pronounced than the gap between young and old. This also suggests that the crowd, cloud, or whatever they’re calling it these days may be not be truly representative of the working class.

Of course the REAL issue is clear: how do I get me some of that internet money? Seriously, I’ve been blogging for like, a whole year, and I have yet to become rich and educated.

What’s that you say? I’m misrepresenting correlation as causation? That sounds like college talk to me.
