Freedom of expression

We are deeply concerned that the text proposed by the Bulgarian presidency represents a major threat to the freedoms of European citizens and businesses and promises to severely harm Europe’s openness, competitiveness, innovation, science, research and education.

APC, in collaboration with the Internet Policy Observatory, University of Pennsylvania, has commissioned a report that examines criminalisation of online expression in six Asian states. We welcome all to an informative discussion on the findings of the report, to be held in Kuala Lampur.

7amleh – The Arab Center for the Advancement of Social Media published its annual research report on Palestinian digital activism. The report, titled #Palestine 2017, provides information about internet access and usage, examines the most dominant social and political campaigns and viral hashtags, and monitors human and digital rights violations against Palestinians.

In a letter to the Ethiopian Prime Minister-designate, a coalition of over 40 civil society organisations express their concern regarding the recent arrests of journalists and human rights defenders.

APC member in Pakistan Media Matters for Democracy stated: "The services are suspended in the wake of national events to avert possible law and order situations; however, there is no substantive evidence available to link network shutdowns with successfully countering acts of terrorism."
