About KeSIG

Founded in 2016, KeSIG was the first national School of Internet Governance in Africa. Since its inception, it has grown into a flagship program that introduces diverse voices—government officials, academics, civil society, media practitioners, and the tech community—to internet governance.

KeSIG covers:

  • Core concepts in internet governance
  • Technical, economic, legal, and social issues shaping policy
  • Internet governance processes and participation pathways
  • Kenya’s internet governance frameworks

Why KeSIG Matters

KeSIG builds a critical mass of advocates for internet rights and freedoms. It strengthens multi-stakeholder participation in ICT policy development and amplifies African perspectives in global debates.

By offering accessible online training, KeSIG has expanded participation from 40 to 100 students annually, while also highlighting the need for affordable internet access and connectivity.

Objectives of KeSIG

KeSIG’s mission is to:

  • Help participants understand internet governance concepts.
  • Increase the number of voices contributing to policy-making in Kenya and globally.
  • Equip participants with practical skills for engaging in governance forums.
  • Provide trainers with feedback on emerging issues.
  • Create networking opportunities across sectors.

Who Should Apply

KeSIG targets Kenyans from all sectors—government, academia, civil society, law enforcement, media, and the tech community—who are new to internet governance and eager to contribute to shaping Kenya’s digital future.
