Governments in Southeast Asia largely rely on laws to quell communal tensions and manage the diverse communities within their countries, but this has resulted in the dominance of ethno-religious majorities. This report examines the implications in Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines and Singapore.
APC’s priorities at this HRC session include gender and privacy online, freedom of religion or belief, and the criminalisation of human rights defenders, journalists and digital security and tech expertise, as well as highlighting violations of internet rights in countries like India and Myanmar.
APC presents this report on the experience and situation of women and LGBTIQA+ persons and communities in relation to the intersection of religion and online spaces, with particular examples from Asia given the pressing nature of the issues in the region.
