The AfriSIG 2019 sessions were intense and highly engaging and delivered by the faculty in innovative and interactive ways. The participants were an awesome and exciting lot. Community networks provide alternatives to internet access infrastructure that is controlled by either companies or the state. In the remote area where Kondoa Community Network works, even patchy services have been helpful to ensure access to better education and medical services. 

This pilot project involves mounting a mobile telephone network in the municipality of Buenos Aires, Cauca. We spoke with Colnodo director Julián Casasbuenas about the use of spectrum in Colombia and how important it is for the communities involved to be able to use it directly.
