Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida)
One of the main goals of the Swedish International Development Agency is to reduce poverty and empower the poor. As part of its work in ICT for democracy, Sida funded a study to be conducted by the APC on the effects and possibilities of ICT for the enhancement of democracy, ending in 2009.
Sida has provided core funding to support the implementation of APC's strategic plan for the periods 2012-2015 and continues to support with core funding in 2016-2019.
Twelve community network organisations (four in Africa, four in Asia and four in Latin America) will be selected and granted funding towards activities that create and foster a peer learning community.
The Internet Governance Forum kicks off on Monday, 12 November 2018, in Paris, France. On the evening of Sunday, 11 November, from 19:30 to 22:00, APC and Hivos/DDP will host the event Disco-tech Paris, under the theme, “Breaking through the walls of an inaccessible internet”.
APC’s subgranting programme, now in its third year, has so far awarded a total of USD 291,534 to support its members in achieving APC’s vision. Sixteen member organisations have been recipients of 17 grants. The call for campaign and research grants is still open.
7amleh - Arab Center for Social Media Advancement published an innovative research analysing digital rights violations and threats in Palestine, with support from APC.
This report analyses freedoms in the Palestinian virtual sphere, especially in the context of violations that have recently been perpetrated against activists on social media platforms and the restrictions on freedom of speech online committed by the Israeli occupation, legislations from the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza, as well as companies.
A total of 54 reports on NRIs are gathered in this year's Global Information Society Watch (GISWatch). These include 40 country reports from contexts as diverse as the United States, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Pakistan, the Republic of Korea and Colombia.

This report presents the findings of research aimed at understanding the factors hindering the effective use of the internet by women in northern Nigeria, as part of a project funded with an APC member subgrant.
WOUGNET in partnership with the Association for Progressive Communications (APC) conducted a desk review to ascertain the gender responsiveness of ICT policies and laws and create advocacy and awareness surrounding the need for more participation of women in ICT discussions, policies and decision making processes.
