Biografía

Naveen Bagalkot is a design researcher, educator and facilitator broadly working at the intersections of human-computer interaction design (HCI), participatory design and community-based care. He is trained as an architect and industrial designer, and holds a PhD in interaction design from the IT University of Copenhagen. His work explores alternative possibilities for localised, decolonised and participatory design of data-driven digital-physical infrastructures for community care and well-being.

As a part of the Design Beku collective, Naveen focuses on facilitating collaborative design and critical making for and with grassroots community organisations such as MAYA, IT for Change and Jatan Sansthan. Since 2016, he has been working with MAYA Health on “Infrastructuring for Community Care”, and since 2020, has been a member of the board of MAYA, continuing with the participatory design activities with the community health workers focusing on building a local data infrastructure for community health, along with international and local collaborators. As an educator at Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Naveen works towards creating an environment of learning that expands the horizon of emerging design practice through a critical and situated engagement with technological ideas and real-world complexities.
