The Association for Progressive Communications (APC) and 7amleh - The Arab Centre for Social Media Advancement submit this statement ahead of the Human Rights Council 37th session to express our grave concern regarding the crackdown on freedom of expression and infringements on privacy online for Palestinian citizens of Israel and Palestinians throughout the occupied Palestinian territories.
This research aims to examine the performance of Palestinian organisations in relation to their media activity and their usage of social and digital media in particular. In many cases, the high levels of social media consumption by Palestinian society has imposed such means of communication on these organisations and associations.
7amleh Center publishes research on Palestinian civil society organisation’s digital activism and training needs.
7amleh - Arab Center for Social Media Advancement published an innovative research analysing digital rights violations and threats in Palestine, with support from APC.
This report analyses freedoms in the Palestinian virtual sphere, especially in the context of violations that have recently been perpetrated against activists on social media platforms and the restrictions on freedom of speech online committed by the Israeli occupation, legislations from the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza, as well as companies.
Hundreds of students, activists and human rights defenders attended the second Palestine Digital Activism Forum in Ramallah on 17 January 2018. The event was hosted by 7amleh – the Arab Center for Social Media Advancement, a non-profit organisation aimed at enabling Palestinian and Arab civil society, which has been a member of the APC network since June 2017.
Palestinian NGO 7amleh – Arab Center for Social Media Advancement focuses on improving the skills and capacities of Palestinian and Arab civil society through training on social media activism skills and methodologies. Today we proudly welcome them as the latest addition to the APC network.
