Persatuan Kesedaran Komuniti Selangor (EMPOWER) is a group of people who believe that they can help build a more democratic society in Malaysia. Our group started by working with the women and youth who were affected by the December 2004 tsunami. We observed that the women’s economic losses were neither recognised nor compensated and we saw the need to do something. So to advance women’s equality and non-discrimination, we formed Pusat Janadaya Berhad. In March 2008, the Registrar of Societies approved our application to form Persatuan Kesedaran Komuniti Selangor, a nonprofit organisation. “EMPOWER” was born – to work together with women to facilitate changes.
