Between 4 and 8 May, the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) is discussing the overall review of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), which is considered a cornerstone of international norms and discourse on internet policy and governance.
As WSIS marks its 10th anniversary, the UN General Assembly is set to evaluate its progress and decide its future in December 2015. The 8th session of the CSTD in Geneva is the final occasion for the Commission to comment on the assessment of the progress in the outcomes of WSIS.
As civil society organisations committed to the goal of a “people-centred, inclusive and development-oriented Information Society”, APC, the International Federation of Library Associations and the Internet Democracy Project have released a statement to highlight this central WSIS goal.
