Digital technologies can help us fight climate change, environmental degradation and pollution, but we must significantly reduce their impact on the planet. One of the key strategies in mitigating this impact is to treat the devices as part of circular economies. At APC, awareness of climate change and its relationship with information and communications technologies (ICTs) has been an integral part of our work since we were born, in 1990.
ICTs can enhance the capacity of communities to organise and respond to extreme weather events provoked by climate change.
Given the growing importance of environmental sustainability in social and economic development, much attention has been given to the role of information and communications technologies, both as tools to address sustainability imbalances and as the source of environmental challenges in themselves.
