Pablo Accuosto

Pablo Accuosto is a pre-doctoral researcher at the Large-Scale Text Understanding Systems Lab/Natural Language Processing Group (LaSTUS/TALN) at Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona). He is also part of ObservaTIC, a multidisciplinary research team around the social impacts of information and communication technologies (ICTs) at the University of the Republic in Uruguay.

Pablo is interested in multiple dimensions of ICT and, in particular, in the ethical, social and political implications of large-scale data processing technologies. He was a long-term representative of Uruguayan former APC member Instituto del Tercer Mundo (ITeM), at which time he was actively involved in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) and the Latin American Digital Agenda (eLAC). While at ITeM and in partnership with APC and Hivos, Pablo coordinated the first edition of Global Information Society Watch (GISWatch), aimed at assessing the civil society participation in WSIS. He has also been a member of APC's policy team where, as policy research coordinator, he was in charge of APC's Action Research Network and other research-oriented activities. More recently Pablo has been active in projects involving women's rights and ICT, including Anacaonas, which is currently led by APC member in Costa Rica Sulá Batsú.
