Data collection can also be a useful tool for media practitioners and newsrooms to further tell human stories using evidence-based analysis on the full scale of the impacts, and bring people together to push back against environmental exploitation by big polluters. MAJI's Soot Mapping Project envisioned how locals can use low-cost environmental sensing tools to generate their own data and call attention of government agencies and other relevant stakeholders to the impacts of air pollution that isn’t visible to the naked eye.
