The objectives of this paper are to define big data in the Indian context, to further improve the understanding of big data, and help initiate public discourse around issues of privacy in the big data age. Expectations remain that this public discourse would potentially pave the way for developing the law in India to enable citizens to gain from big data, while limiting the potential violations and also ensuring the human rights of citizens.
