Technology and communication at the heart of social change: Check out these exciting internship opportunities!

First cohort of interns, 2018/2019

By APCNews

Alternatives, an APC member organisation based in Montreal, is partnering with APC and other organisations that focus on the impact of technology on social justice and sustainable development to offer the opportunity to gain valuable experience in this field. APC, together with Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) and the Right To Know campaign (RTK), are hosting internships in South Africa for work focusing on internet-related policy and governance, privacy, and communications.

The internships are made possible through the International Youth Internship Program (IYIP), which is designed to offer Canadian post-secondary graduates the opportunity to support sustainable international development projects with organisations working locally in many countries around the world.

In order to qualify for the IYIP, individuals must have Canadian citizenship or permanent residency, be between the ages of 19 and 30, and hold a post-secondary diploma or degree. More detailed information is available here.

The internships with APC, MMA and R2K are based in Johannesburg or Cape Town. They would start in late April 2019 and continue until the end of October 2019.

APC, MMA and R2K are currently hosting seven interns from the programme in Johannesburg, and it has been a highly enriching experience for everyone involved.

Although the deadline for applications has passed, late applications are being accepted until 28 February 2019 for the following positions:

  • ICT policy analyst, Association for Progressive Communications (APC) – more details here.

  • Communications intern, Association for Progressive Communications (APC) – more details here.

  • Project officer, Media Monitoring Africa (MMA) – more details here.

  • Privacy and security communications officer, Right2Know (R2K) – more details here.
