Public Internet Registry (PIR)
Based in Reston, Virginia, Public Interest Registry is a not-for profit organisation created by the Internet Society (ISOC), originally to manage .org. In 2016, the Public Internet registry was one of the supporters of APC's African School on Internet Governance (AfriSIG).
APC recognises the internet as a global public good, which should be governed in an inclusive, transparent, democratic and accountable manner. The lack of transparency, consultation and accountability around the proposed sale of .ORG is in stark contrast to the principles of multistakeholder governance that ISOC promotes in other areas of its work and operations.
AfriSIG is a multistakeholder training initiative that aims to give Africans from diverse sectors and stakeholder groups the opportunity to gain knowledge and confidence to participate effectively in internet governance processes and debates.
