Carmen holds an MA in New Media and Digital Culture from the University of Amsterdam and an undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts: Cultural Studies and Sociology from Maastricht University. During her master’s degree studies Carmen wrote her thesis on transgender subcultural construction on Reddit. Her areas of interest include subculture construction in online spaces, online community building, issue mapping, and online political movements.
At APC, Carmen researched organisational social media spaces through the application of digital methods that will allow her to analyse the predominant discourses and gain an understanding of the actors, issues and topics being discussed within the online digital rights space. This research provided insights into how APC can better utilise its social media channels, in a more effective and timely manner.
