Betinho Communications Prize: Recognising remarkable contributions in using the internet for social justice and development
We are re-launching the Betinho Communications Prize, which will go to the most significant contribution in using the internet for social justice and development. And we are doing it at a very symbolic time for APC.
EIFL’s Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) is inviting applications for a new award – for public and community libraries that empower women and girls through information and communication technology (ICT).
• The call is open to public and community libraries in developing and transition countries
• The prize includes US$1,500 and the opportunity to publicize your service widely.
APC presents a Multimedia training kit on human rights and the internet, a set of modules concerned with the relationship between human rights, information and communications technologies (ICTs) and the internet. These modules can be used freely to help those who work on human rights and ICTs to understand how the internet is affecting the protection of rights.
APC stands in solidarity with the Expression Online Initiative, which expressed serious concerns regarding violations of UN principles currently taking place at the 7th annual Internet Governance Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan. The violations include restrictions on freedom of expression and association and failure to guarantee equal rights for every participant. Read Expression Online’s open letter.
