APC welcomes the report by the Special Rapporteur on the right to education, particularly his focus on “the right to education in the digital age” and his observation that the digital divide persists and continues to result in unequal opportunities for education both between and within countries.

APC welcomes the prioritisation of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in Goal 5 of the 2030 Agenda, in particular, recognition of the need to enhance the use of enabling technology to achieve this as a clear target.

The 32nd session of the Human Rights Council is taking place from 13 June to 1 July in Geneva. Internet rights will be discussed coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the Council.

APC welcomes the report of the UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, which focuses on the role of the information and communications technology (ICT) sector in the promotion and protection of freedom of opinion and expression.

This submission is a joint stakeholder contribution to the second cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism for Uganda. It focuses on women’s rights and the internet in Uganda, and explores the extent of implementation of the recommendations made in the previous cycle of the UPR.

Violations of freedom of expression in the name of religion, are increasingly taking place online, and disproportionally impact women and sexual minorities.    

APC and Bytes for All, Pakistan welcome the report of the Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief, which rejects the conflict between freedom of expression and freedom of religion and instead highlights their positive interrelatedness and mutual reinforcement.
