Instituto DEMOS works on promoting, strengthening and accompanying women's, youth and indigenous organisations and fostering democratic development processes at the local, national and international levels. DEMOS's vision is that of an inclusive Guatemala and Central America region based on social justice, human security and the exercise of human rights.

How does the internet work? How is it managed and developed? While the importance of universalising internet access and use becomes increasingly recognised, reflection on the concrete aspects of internet governance is often missing. This is why APC organises events like the National Meeting on Internet Governance – Ecuador, which will take place on 27 November.

On 27 November in Quito, the National Meeting on Internet Governance – Ecuador will be a space for discussion and reflection on internet governance issues in Ecuador. The conversation will be framed within both the regional and global context, in addition to providing insights from experts on conceptual, technical and political approaches to internet governance.

On 30 and 31 August 2014, 39 women engineers and technologists created nine prototypes of software applications aimed at solving social problems in the north of Costa Rica, at the First Women’s Hackathon, organised by APC member organisation Sulá Batsú through its TIC-AS project, with the support of UN Women’s Fund for Gender Equality.

This report presents a summary of some aspects in the discussion in Latin America regarding human rights and the internet, and was specially produced to increase the understanding of the region among the international community gathered at the 2014 Internet Government Forum (IGF) in Istanbul.
