GenderIT.org policy monitor
Why is internet censorship often used as a tool to regulate women’s sexualities? Can technology really transform the realities of women? Can the current laws protect women’s rights online?
Women’s diverse realities, needs and priorities are often excluded in the process of shaping an open and transformative internet. GenderIT.org is a seminal resource site that aims to respond to this gap and provide feminist reflections on internet policies. GenderIT.org’s editions maps the intersections between women’s rights and sexual rights and critical areas of internet policy such as privacy, security, access, censorship and internet governance. The portal has been labeled a ‘treasure trove on gender and ICT’ by gender & communication rights activists for its gender analysis of internet policy frameworks, as well as its critical and disarmingly frank live coverage of events.
