The Association for Progressive Communications (APC) is looking for an experienced grant writer to join our team. The selected candidate will be responsible for fundraising and resource mobilisation strategies.

We are a global network of civil society organisations whose strength lies in the fact that we aren't passionate about the internet for the internet's sake. We are committed activists who are passionate about using the internet to make the world a better place. We help people build access to the internet where there is none or it is unaffordable. We help grassroots groups use technology to develop their communities and further their rights. We work to make sure that government policies related to information and communications serve the best interests of the general population, especially people living in the global South.

Who we are looking for: You have experience working with international non-profit organisations and you want to join an international team working for social justice, human rights and development with a feminist perspective. You are also committed to APC’s mission, vision, values, principles and approaches.

You are an excellent writer with experience in desk-based research, grant writing and proposal development. You pay attention to detail and can work with tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure. You enjoy working with and developing online tools, platforms and systems, are comfortable working remotely, are well organised and can work unsupervised.

Main purpose of the job: You will be supporting our operations director and management team in the writing, compilation and submission of grant proposals, as well as having the chance to create the support systems and procedures needed for our longer-term resource mobilisation and financial resilience strategy.

Remuneration and duration of contract: This is a full-time position on a fixed-term 12-month contract. Contract renewal is dependent on performance (there will be a four-month probation period) and the availability of funding. Remuneration is in the range of USD 40,000 to 45,000 and short-listed applicants will receive specific information about the salary range.

Start date: 6 May 2019

Deadline for applications: 29 March 2019 at 23:59 UTC

Location: You are located in one of our target regions, which include Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East and Central and Eastern Europe.

  • Writing draft proposals, facilitating and compiling contributions and finalising grant proposals.

  • Preparing and compiling all documentation for proposal submissions.

  • Building and updating an online-based system for tracking resource mobilisation activities.

  • Building and maintaining an online “resource centre” with materials to support APC fundraising needs.

Our ideal applicant has:

  • A university degree or equivalent tertiary qualification or other comparable experience.

  • Three or more years of experience in grant writing or work of a similar nature.

  • Experience in desk-based research for grant writing or an associated area.
