Strategic use of the internet
Governments surveillance and filtration on the internet is increasing.
The International Press Institute is now taking applications for the IPI Press Contest. The goal of the contest is to encourage the expansion of online free media in Africa, the Middle East and Europe by working with mobile, digital and open-source technology.
The study, conducted by the Youth and Participatory Politics research network, found that contrary to commonly held beliefs those who used new media and social networking were more likely to be politically engaged.
