Strategic use of the internet
If we’re worried about the volume of data that’s gathered about us every time we click a mouse or tap a smartscreen, surely there must be more than enough to tell us all we need to know about how the Information Society’s evolving. Not so, and especially not so when it comes to measuring the impact of ICTs on sustainable development.

The 43 country reports and eight thematic reports in this year's GISWatch focus on community networks, defined as “communication networks built, owned, operated, and used by citizens in a participatory and open manner.”
The Internet Governance Forum kicks off on Monday, 12 November 2018, in Paris, France. On the evening of Sunday, 11 November, from 19:30 to 22:00, APC and Hivos/DDP will host the event Disco-tech Paris, under the theme, “Breaking through the walls of an inaccessible internet”.
In October 2017, 105 journalists, artists, technologists, researchers and film-makers gathered in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, for COCONET: a Southeast Asia Digital Rights Camp. It was organised by EngageMedia, in collaboration with APC, the Southeast Asian Press Alliance and a regional consortium.
APC’s year of transition has been a year of learning and change for all of us. We’ve had a good year, made possible by the spirit, hard work and commitment of the APC staff, the engagement of our members, the guidance of our board of directors, and the support of our partners.
In the Philippines, the use of big data by government and the private sector is also growing steadily. Of course, no technology has ever been developed that does not have its less agreeable side. This report covers big data use, emerging concerns and critical points to keep in mind for the future.
This toolkit, produced between A4AI, the Worldwide Web Foundation, the GSMA and APC, has been designed for stakeholders who are interested in integrating gender into their research projects in order to better understand this gender gap in internet access and use.
This GenderIT.org edition is an exploration of the multiple layers of the relationship between sexuality, rights and sexual expression and the internet. Does it open up new avenues for expression, or does it expose people to more variations of the violence that we face onground/offline?
