APC presents a Multimedia training kit on human rights and the internet, a set of modules concerned with the relationship between human rights, information and communications technologies (ICTs) and the internet. These modules can be used freely to help those who work on human rights and ICTs to understand how the internet is affecting the protection of rights.
Over the past few months, EngageMedia as part of the video4change network has been developing four guides to support the work of video activists. The materials range from video security to using Android video apps. One outstanding example is “A guide on open source video editing” available here. Click for all four.
General information on the training
D-Island is an open meeting/training space developed in SecondLife virtual world and it is administered by APC. It can be used by development organisations and networks for their own online meetings and capacity building activities.

1. Initial training for D-Island users and administrators
First two training sessions took place on November 23 and November 30 on D-Island (virtual island) and they were targeted at APC network and selected partners. Training language is English.
D-Island is an open development space offered by Association for Progressive Communications (APC), International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and their partners for the international development community.
APC has recently co-produced training materialson Web 2.0 and social media for development for the FAO Information Management Resource Kit (IMARK). This unit, along with others, is available for free online and in CD format on the project’s website.
“The principles that I learned in the APC workshop helped me work in resource-constrained environments,” says Alex Gondwe, techie at the Baobab Health Partnership in Malawi.
