In this statement during the March 2023 session of the Open-ended Working Group on developments in the field of information and telecommunications in the context of international security 2021–2025, APC focuses on gender-sensitive cybersecurity capacity building.
This presentation was jointly delivered by Joana Varon (Coding Rights) and Valeria Betancourt (APC) at the Global Digital Compact Americas Multistakeholder Consultation held in Mexico City on 15-16 February 2023 to discuss the challenges, opportunities and priorities of the region.
This statement, delivered during the informal dialogue open to all interested stakeholders on 1 March 2023, reiterates APC's call for a human rights-based and gender approach to existing and emerging threats, so that cybersecurity can improve the security of people in all their diversity.
In this contribution to the thematic report of the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression to the UN Human Rights Council, APC emphasises how meaningful access to the internet impacts social and environmental justice and development.
APC joined together with over 160 civil society organisations to call on Human Rights Council member states to approve the resolution extending the mandate of the Special Rapporteur for three years during the 52nd session of the Council.
APC believes that the Global Digital Compact could play a key role in ensuring that the lessons learned from years of multistakeholder cooperation feed into future processes of internet policy, internet governance and global digital cooperation.
This submission was prepared in response to a call for inputs from the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights for a workshop on promoting and protecting economic, social and cultural rights within the context of addressing inequalities in the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
This document summarises APC's reflections on the 2022 IGF in terms of what worked well and what did not work so well, in areas such as the preparatory process, the hybrid format, the programme, logistics, inclusion, diversity and safety. It also offers recommendations for the 2023 IGF.
APC joins with other civil society organisations to denounce that while the Committee on NGOs is the gatekeeper to civil society access and is entrusted with monitoring the relationship between NGOs and the UN, the Committee’s practices violate its mandate.
