Africa ICT Policy Monitor

The primary goal of the APC Africa ICT Policy Monitor is to enable African civil society organisations to engage in ICT policy development processes in order to promote an information society based on social justice and human rights. The ultimate aim is for governments and policy-makers to recognise that access to and the use of ICTs is a basic human right.

The project, which was started in 2001, focuses on nine African countries where APC is working: South Africa, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Uganda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Senegal, Ethiopia, and Egypt. It covers several thematic areas, including access, communication rights, internet governance, and telecommunications.

The policy monitor also publishes the Chakula e-newsletter. Chakula, a Swahili word for ‘food’, highlights ICT policy advocacy issues in line with APC’s work on the ground.
