Global, regional and local impact

APC implements projects nationally, regionally, and globally. Members and partners play a crucial role in the level of impact achieved.

GenderIT.org, a bilingual (English/Spanish) project of APC's Women's Rights Programme, is a feminist advocacy space that explores issues related to gender and information and communications technologies (ICTs).

The site is a think tank of  and for women's rights, sexual rights and internet rights activists, academics, journalists, and advocates from a range of disciplines and contexts.

It is a platform for reflection, influence and advocacy on internet policy and culture, to help ensure that they meet the needs of women and gender non-conforming people, and do not infringe on their rights.

Our focus is on bringing voices from the global South into the discussion of these issues, since the discussion is often dominated by voices from the North. GenderIT.org is published in both English and Spanish currently.

We publish in-depth research, columns and think pieces, and share resources that map the intersections between gender, sexuality and the internet. We recognise that the internet is an evolving and dynamic environment, so the principles we operate on need to be flexible, but these are based on the understanding that equality and respect are non-negotiable.

    A bit of history

Launched in 2006, GenderIT.org is a groundbreaking resource site that provides feminist reviews and commentary on internet policy and culture. It started as a site monitoring policy developments on ICT and gender, and from its beginnings has been unique. Initially it was one of the first sites looking at ICT policy through a gender lens. Many years later, GenderIT.org remains a unique space for its focus on the global South, its focus on those working at the grassroots level (grounded in the experience of women and gender non-conforming people in the society in which they live), and its emphasis on both advocacy and social justice.

A favourite feature of GenderIT.org is the Feminist Talk forum. You can subscribe to Gender Centred, a GenderIT.org thematic bulletin in English or Spanish. You can also follow our regular updates on Twitter (@GenderITorg).
