By Flavia Fascendini Publisher: APCNews     Nueva York,

The APC Women’s Rights Programme will be present at the fifty-eighth session of the Commission on the Status of Women, which will take place at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 10-21 March 2014. Representatives of member states, UN entities and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organisations from all regions of the world will attend the session.

This year’s priority is “Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls.” The review theme is “Access and participation of women and girls to education, training, science and technology, including for the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work, from the 54th session of the CSW.”

The active participation of non-governmental organisations is a critical element in the work of the CSW due to its influence in shaping the current global policy framework on women’s empowerment and gender equality. Notable outputs include the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and it continues to play an important role in holding international and national leaders accountable for the commitments they made in the Beijing agreement.
