APC’s subgranting programme, now in its third year, has so far awarded a total of USD 291,534 to support its members in achieving APC’s vision. Sixteen member organisations have been recipients of 17 grants. The call for campaign and research grants is still open.
The Syrian Council of Ministers passed a new anti-cybercrime bill on 5 March, creating specialised courts of first instance for cybercrime-related cases, APC member SMEX shared on their website.
APC member in Pakistan Media Matters for Democracy stated: "The services are suspended in the wake of national events to avert possible law and order situations; however, there is no substantive evidence available to link network shutdowns with successfully countering acts of terrorism."
The UN Human Rights Council's 37th session is taking place in Geneva. APC has participated with a diversity of statements and sessions on internet rights, including “Digital identity, smart cities and other data intensive systems: The implications for the right to privacy”.
During the Mobile World Congress 2018, it was announced that Guifi.net will be responsible for developing 5G network architecture focused on access and affordability in a community in Tarragona, Spain, through the RIFE (aRchitecture for an Internet for Everybody) project.
Video4Change (V4C) is a network of 12 diverse organisations – including APC member EngageMedia – whose common goal is to defend human rights and justice using video for change.
