cultural and linguistic diversity

cultural and linguistic diversity

The WSIS Plan of Action states that cultural and linguistic diversity, while stimulating respect for cultural identity, traditions and religions, is essential to the development of an information society based on the dialogue among cultures and regional and international cooperation and an important factor for sustainable development. Websites, online tools and software are dominated by the use of Latin script. This effects the development of local content in non-Latin languages and impedes the possibility of intercultural content exchange. APC believes that technical development must encourage linguistic diversity on the internet and simplify the exchange of information across language barriers.
