Women Speak of Violence – and Healing – in Digital Stories

“Abuse seems to follow me, wherever I go.” A woman speaks of the sexual abuse she experienced as a child in her digital story called The Goddess. The Goddess is one of seven Kuwento Ko, Tinig Ko (My Story, My Voice): Digital Stories of Women produced by APC member Foundation for Media Alternatives and Take Back the Tech Philippines as part of APC’s MDG3: Take Back the Tech! to end violence against women campaign.

These digital stories, created during a digital storytelling workshop last month, allow the women to speak of their experiences and tell their stories of abuse as a way to heal and to empower other women to speak out against violence against women (VAW) and girls. View them on YouTube or on Facebook.

As part of the campaign, Take Back the Tech! Philippines has also enrolled its organisational partners to create digital postcards, shared messages about violence against women with its partners and friends through SMS, gave a presentation to 700-1000 high school students about eVAW and released a statement a statement on eVAW to local media and partners all over the Philippines, initially drafted during the Philippine National Strategy Workshop.
